Miraculous Water

Water is the most abundant substance on earth and, no doubt,  we have seen our fair share with the local snowpack this year. So, it got me thinking…. Which led me to a documentary about water I would highly recommend you watch: “The Great Mystery of Water” found on YouTube. It is packed with all kinds of really interesting information I found fascinating. Here a few takeaways:

Did you know, Water unlike any other substance, has properties unlike any other liquid: for example, why does water become denser below the freezing point while all other liquids contract below the freezing point? In addition, Water is also the only substance on the earth that can exist in all three states: liquid, solid and gas. Lastly, It also has the highest surface tension of all liquids.

While all of the above properties caught my attention, one of the studies in the documentary really jerked my attention. Dr Imoto, a Scientist wanted to measure the impact words, or lack thereof have on water’s structure. He poured some rice and some water in 3 different beakers. Each day for one month he said “Thank You” to one beaker, “You are an idiot” to the second and the third one, he completely ignored. After one month the rice in the first beaker had begun to ferment giving off a pleasant aroma, The rice in the second beaker turned black and the rice that was ignored began to rot. The take away was that kind words produce positive results while indifference was the most destructive. Unkind words resulted in negative, rotted results. He believes this can also be true of how people respond to different types of words. After all, we are essentially made of water.

We are all blessed to have received the large amount of snow  we did. With spring upon us, let us be aware of all the streams, creeks and rivers overflowing with life giving water. Next time you drive by water, think about its structure and the impact you have on it based on your personal thoughts, feelings and actions.
